About

We are University of Delaware students learning the history of photography.

Instructor La Tanya S. Autry, PhD candidate in the Art History Department at University of Delaware, developed arth318snapshot as an online community for students enrolled in ARTH318 History of Photography to blog and tweet about issues in photography.
This project, which started in July 2012, involves students writing about their interactions with photography. Over the five week summer session, students respond to three assigned topics. The remaining two entries are “free writes.” Each student decides what s/he wants to discuss in those entries.
Through promoting dialogue outside the classroom, arth318snapshot encourages students to both relate course content to their lives and collaborate with one another. Additionally, the students’ writings provide fodder for actual class discussions.

*At the end of July 2012, due to the pressing time constraints of a summer course, I decreased the number of posts that I required students to write. Instead of five entries, I asked students to post three responses to two assigned topics and one “free write.”
